Any students that have not finished upon returning from the break will be required to stay in during lunch and attend Friday School until they are caught up. Remember, I make the computer lab available every day after school. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

They have been creating games in class that are designed to teach and test the players on these subjects of study. Games are due on Monday, November 21st and we will be played in class. Seventh grade students are using their textbook to create Google Slides presentations. These presentations are intended to turn the student into the expert on their particular material and teach the class what they have learned. (see computer section for more details)
Literature: Sixth grade has finished their Mythology reading, with their final assignment this weekend. Next week we will begin reading Tale of Troy. Seventh grade is reading War Horse and truly enjoying it. This is a wonderful story that gives students a deeper connection to the conditions faced by soldiers and horses during WWI.
Computer/Library: Sixth grade students began using their email accounts to send emails. They sent one to Mrs. Denman, one to you, and one to a friend. They also CC’d me on all of the emails. The intent of this exercise was to teach students about voice in an email; professional vs. personal. They very much enjoyed the exercise and Mrs. Denman is excited to reply to all of them. Seventh grade is working on their Google Slides presentations for Science. The presentation must be at least five minutes long and include five slides. Each slide should have 3 - 5 bullet points on it along with one image. We are working on making a presentation that is crisp and professional. Due to the accreditation team being on site today we did not make it into the library.

Mr. Vieira’s Updates:

When: Now through December 1st
Where: Drop off items in 5th grade classroom (there is a box)
Contact: kaitlynbrown32@comcast.net (Quentin’s mother)

Quentin's goal is to collect 250 pairs of socks. If every student brings in one pair, he will meet this goal!

Upcoming Events/Dates:
November 23rd and 24th- Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday and Thursday)
December 1st - Last day of Sock Drive
December 8th - Winter Music Performance (5th - 8th Grade)
December 15th - 8th Grade Performance of Twelfth Night
December 19th - Winter Break

Ms. Venture’s Updates:
Science: Seventh grade has moved into Chemistry and is investigating chemical reactions.  We have created and played games in order to better understand the science and help us study for next week's test. Sixth grade has moved into their studies of plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes. They are currently creating their own games to study these topics. Games are due November 21!
Literature: Seventh grade students spent last week learning about common foreign phrases used in English. They created and presented skits, teaching these phrases to the class. The skits were wonderful! This week we have started reading War Horse. This is a wonderful story that expertly depicts the atrocities of WWI and gives students a better grasp of that time in history. Sixth grade is continuing Mythology and enjoying the stories!
Computer/Library: Email accounts are up and running. You will be getting password access codes this weekend. The account will be used in class for various activities and will allow students to access Google Classroom, a tool Mr. Vieira and I will start using for Science and Social Studies in the coming weeks. Students should continue to practice their typing at home: chpcs7th.typingclub.com They are to be finished with all 100 lessons by December 15th. Many students have expressed concern about access to a computer. I informed them I was willing to stay an extra half hour every day to afford them time in the computer lab. Please contact me to verify if this is something your student would benefit from.

Mr. Vieira’s Updates:
Riggs (Spelling): We continue to gain 6 new words on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We then test the 30 most recent words. Each day your child should have a slip of paper stapled into their planner that identifies words missed on the spelling test. They should practice these mixed words when they do their homework.
History/Geography: Sixth grade is wrapping up their study of ancient Greece and will begin to learn about the Roman Empire next week. Seventh grade continues to study WWI and its devastating impact on soldiers and civilians alike.
Writing:  Both grades are continuing their work of re-telling narratives. We are currently producing work from the outline to the final draft stage. For more information visit the writing section for your child’s grade (6th or 7th) on our blog.

Sock Drive!

Hello CHPCS Families!

Quentin's goal is to collect 250 pairs of socks. If every student brings in one pair, he will meet this goal!

Week 8

Good afternoon, families!

Parents have voiced concerns about homework during our conferences, and we would like to clarify a few points. Nightly (regular) assignments include:
  • Math
  • Riggs (spelling)
Science, literature, social studies, and writing homework is assigned as needed. It is then due the next time student’s have that subject.

An example would be a class which meets on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. An assignment is given out on Wednesday, the student has until the following Monday to complete that assignment. We will usually give smaller assignments at the beginning of the week and larger ones toward the end, so students have more time to complete them.

Additionally, students do not have Riggs on Thursdays, so they will have one less assignment to contend with at the end of the week. We hope this clears up any confusion. Please feel free to contact us if needed.

Upcoming Events/Dates:
November 3rd- Sock Hop 3:45 to 4:30
November 4th - Parent Teacher Conferences
November 23rd and 24th- Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday and Thursday)

Ms. Venture’s Updates:

Next week I will be sending home a permission slip for students to receive a CHPCS email account. This account will be used in class for various activities and will allow students to access Google Classroom, a tool Mr. Vieira and I will start using for Science and Social Studies in the coming weeks.

Mr. Vieira’s Updates:
